In Georgia, Ombudsman and NGOs sign memorandum in defence of human rights

On May 10, Georgian Ombudsman Georgi Tugushi and a number of local nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) signed the memorandum "On defence and support of human rights in the area of legislative offers and constitutional proceedings".

According to the document, 5 NGOs - Centre For Defence of Human Rights, Union "21st Century", " Article 42 of Constitution", "Centre in Defence of Constitutional Rights" and "Association of Young Lawyers of Georgia", - on the one hand, and the Ombudsman, on the other hand, have agreed to meet together once a month for drafting joint proposals on how to improve legislation in the sphere of human rights.

"The NGOs have addressed us themselves with their offer on joint actions towards legislation amendments. The 'Association of Young Lawyers of Georgia' was the initiator of this memorandum, and they chose other NGOs to take part in the action," said Nino Iremishvili, press secretary of the Ombudsman of Georgia.
