ECtHR accepts complaint of woman from Nalchik

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has found the complaint of Maria Fanzieva, 65, a resident of Nalchik, eligible for consideration. The response of the Court addressed to her reports that "the complaint fits to be considered both for the eligibility and circumstances of the case on the merits at the same time in conformity with Article 29, paragraph 3 of the Convention."

According to Rule No. 54 of the European Court, it may "make decision immediately." Further, the complainant is informed that the Russian government was offered to submit its written remarks by June 4, 2010, and "to specify, by this deadline, its position concerning amicable settlement of this case."

The facts presented in Ms Fanzieva's complaint refer to the death of her daughter.

On May 26, 2007, in the marketplace named "Strelka" in Nalchik, Fanzieva's daughter of 34 was suspected of larceny. She was detained and brought to the 3rd OVD (Interior Division). Under the version of the investigation, when at the police station, the detainee jumped out of the window and killed herself. However, Fanzieva does not believe in her daughter's suicide and asserts that she was thrown out of the window.

"Based on the complainant's words, her daughter had no relish for suicide; she had three minor children and a good apartment in a newly-built house," runs Section One of the complaint "Maria Fanzieva versus Russia".
