Ex-journalists of "Imedi" sue Georgian authorities at ECtHR
Former journalists of the TV Company "Imedi" have sent a claim against Georgia to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in the context of events on November 7, 2007, when special troops of the Georgia's MIA attacked the premises of the Company. Then, according to journalists, a pogrom was made in the building; and the employees were down on the floor for several minutes with firearms pointed at them.
As reported by the "Rosbalt", ten former employees of the "Imedi" assert that their fundamental rights had been breached". They challenge the "inefficient investigation by the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia and violation of the rights guaranteed to them by the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR)," which, in their opinion, was embodied in torture, intrusion into private life and violation of the right to the freedom of information.
This is the first claim sent by "Imedi" journalists to Strasbourg. It was prepared by the nongovernmental organization "Priority of Human Rights", headed by Liya Mukhashavriya, the "Georgia Online" reports.
A source from the Strasbourg Court has reported that the claim of journalists "Imedi", sent by registered mail was received by the ECtHR; and now "the issue of its eligibility is studied," the ITAR-TASS reports.
