Court obliged Dymovskiy's defender to pay moral compensation to Novorossisk UVD boss

Today, the Primorskiy District Court of Novorossisk has ruled that Vadim Karastelyov should pay 50,000 roubles to Vladimir Chernositov, head of the city UVD (Interior Department), who had accused the human rights activist of disseminating discrediting information.

In his statement of claim, Mr Chernositov demanded to refute a number of facts disseminated by Karastelyov, in particular, his words that Novorossisk "sees mass violations of human rights sheltered by him (Chernositov)."

The head of the city UVD also refuted Vadim's opinion that in Novorossisk "crimes are not investigated, telephone talks are illegally tapped, and no measures are taken to stop violations against human rights activists", the NEWSru.com quotes Chernositov's complaint.

Having considered the claim, the court has obliged Karastelyov to pay 50,000 roubles of moral compensation to Chernositov. At the same time, Mstislav Pomerantsev, Karastelyov's advocate, has noted that the court has denied the demand to refute the above facts, the "Kommersant-Online" reports.

Nevertheless, the defence was dissatisfied with the court's ruling. "We'll fight for cancellation of the decision whatsoever and appeal against it soon at the Regional Court," the "Interfax" quotes Mr Karastelyov's defender.
