Tsotne Gamsakhurdia sentenced to 9.5 years in prison
Today, Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, son of ex-president of Georgia Zviad Gamsakhurdia, was found guilty of illegal keeping of firearms and a murder attempt.
The "Caucasian Knot" reported earlier that Tsotne Gamsakhurdia was detained by the police on October 27, 2009, on charges of deliberate giving a gunshot wound to his neighbour David Badzhelidze. The Prosecutor's Office demanded 11 years of imprisonment for him as punishment. Tsotne rejected the charges and demanded release by referring to Badzhelidze's statement to inspectors that Gamsakhurdia had not shot at him.
According to the press service of the Tbilisi City Court, at today's session Tsotne Gamsakhurdia has been sentenced to 9.5 years of imprisonment, the "Georgia-Online" reports.
The verdict was passed on the basis of parts 1 and 2, Article 236 ("Illegal purchase, keeping and bearing of firearms"), and Article 19-108 ("Deliberate murder attempt") of the Criminal Code of Georgia, the "Gazeta.Ru" writes.
