36 parties to run for local governments in Georgia
On April 3, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Georgia stopped accepting applications from the parties willing to take part in the elections to institutions of local self-government to be held on May 30. In total, the CEC received applications from 36 parties.
Under the electoral legislation, now the CEC has two days to consider the applications and register the parties for participation in the elections. As to the list of nominees to local self-governing institutions, the parties have time to compile such till April 30.
The leading opposition parties now consider the issue to nominate a united candidate from the opposition to the post of Tbilisi Mayor. Now they hold consultations and promise to make the outcomes public.
