Communists demand dismissal of Volgograd Mayor
On March 27 in Volgograd, rallies were held in front of the building of the city mayoralty, where appeals were voiced out to initiate the resignation procedure of the city mayor Roman Grebennikov. The action was organized by communists.
The first rally was on defence of children. The speakers demanded cancellation of the decision of deputies of the Volgograd City Duma, who cancelled the free-of-charge travel of schoolchildren in city public transport. Public activists tried to draw attention of the authorities to the problems of motherhood, childhood, families with many children, school and preschool education; they spoke about tariffs on housing and communal services and catastrophic state of Volgograd roads.
The second rally draw much more people: about a thousand townspersons criticized the mayor for "poor condition of roads, high housing and communal tariffs, and rapid growth of prices on main foodstuffs."
"We can't keep silent any longer; we shouldn't withstand mockery at our city! Power in Russia is granted to people only! People are we - town residents! We decide who should manage Volgograd! Grebennikov failed to justify our confidence," said one of the speakers.
Nobody from the administration came out to talk to the picketers.
