Teacher who drove schoolboy to suicide convicted in Stavropol Territory

On March 23, the court of the city of Budyonnovsk, Stavropol Territory, announced a verdict on the criminal case of a rural teacher Valentina Neumyvakina, accused of driving a senior pupil to suicide. She was sentenced to 1 year of deprivation of freedom.

The "Caucasian Knot" reported, earlier that on January 30, 2008, a schoolboy of 15 Vanya Chernikov committed suicide by taking a fatal dose of medicines. He left a message in his mobile phone addressed to his parents and saying that the teacher, who had regularly humiliated and offended him, pushed him to suicide.

"Valentina Neumyvakina, a teacher of mathematics of secondary school of No. 2 of the village of Aleksandrovskoe, was found guilty under Article 110 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Incitement to suicide") and parts 2, Articles 130 ("Insult")," the Court has reported. According to the verdict, Neumyvakina will spend her year in a colony-settlement. Besides, she is deprived of the right to be engaged in pedagogical activity for two years, the "Interfax" reports.

The spokesman of the court has noted that the teacher was given the last plea at the session, in which she refused to admit her guilt; she is planning to appeal against the verdict, the "Newsru.com" Agency reports.
