Armenia welcomes US resolution on genocide, Turkey protests

Edward Nalbandyan, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia, has stated that adoption by the International Committee of the House of Representatives of US Congress of the resolution on Armenians' genocide is an indication of the commitment of American people to universal values. Turkey in reply to the resolution recalled its ambassador from Washington.

Let us remind you that on March 4 the Committee on Foreign Relations of the House of Representatives of the Congress of the USA passed, with 23 votes for and 22 votes against, Draft Resolution 252 on recognition of Armenians' genocide. The document consisting of 30 points calls US President to strain efforts for making a worthy decision on the issues concerning human rights and freedoms, ethnic cleansings and genocide of Armenians.

"We welcome the decision of the Foreign Committee of the House of Representatives of the US Congress to pass Resolution 252 resolutions on Armenian genocide," runs the statement of Edward Nalbandyan, head of the Armenian MFA.

According to his story, the passage of the resolution is another proof that the American people give great value to defence of human rights and prevention of crimes against humanity, as the "PanARMENIAN.Net" Agency reports.

After the resolution was approved, Turkey withdrew its ambassador from Washington for consultations. President of Turkey Abdullah Gul has already named the today's decision of the Committee as being far from the historical truth and biased, as the Russian News Service reports.
