Ecologists of "Live Utrish" fight for preservation of "Abraus" nature reserve in Krasnodar Territory

The interregional public ecological organization "Live Utrish" sees no sense in the All-Russian protest action, planned on December 26-27, in defence of the "Bolshoi Utrish" nature reserve, announced by the Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus. This was stated by Marina Korovina, coordinator of the "Live Utrish". According to her version, now the organization is worried with the state of affairs in another nature reserve - "Abraus".

"We'll not participate in this action, and we've nothing to do with it, as we don't understand either sense or aims thereof. What exactly are the organizers demanding and how can it help Utrish? What do they want to get? Maybe just draw people's attention. But in practice, it will even more confuse them," Marina Korovina said in her interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to Ms Korovina, at present, the "Live Utrish" does not cooperate with the Ecological Watch in any of the two main directions: struggle for awarding the nature reserve "Bolshoi Utrish" of the status of the national park, and protection of the ecosystem of the "Abraus" nature reserve.

According to the ecologist, the "Abraus" is no less, or even greater natural value than Utrish.

"Here, we have twice as many Red-Book plants than in the Utrish. That is, the territory is very interesting from the biological viewpoint; however, if Utrish is a virgin landscape, the 'Abraus' is not: its territory is rather densely built-up," Marina Korovina has noted.

As stated by the "Live Utrish", the main problem of the "Abraus" is the boarding house "Zvezdny".

Ecologists are concerned not only of the forests, but also of the water bodies of the reserve, for example, Lake Limanchik.
