In Dagestan, advocate accused of insulting inspector is tried

Today, the court precinct No. 106 of Khasavyurt began preliminary hearings on the criminal case against lawyer Sapiyat Magomedova, who is accused by Arslankhan Arslankhanov, an inspector for especially important cases of the Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan, of insulting him with swear words. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it by Salimat Kadyrova, an advocate of the Kizilyurt Inter-District Bar, who is defending Magomedova.

Should Ms Magomedova be found guilty, she can be deprived of the lawyer's status, punished by a fine of up to 40,000 roubles, mandatory works for up to 120 hours or corrective works for up to six months.

Ms Kadyrova informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the trial was conducted with roughest violations of the law. "Until now, Ravzat Magomedova was not interrogated. The criminal case was based exclusively on evidences of interested persons. The state prosecutor at the trial will be Ruslan Talalaev, who has already declared that Arslankhanov is his friend. Certainly, we'll challenge him and other workers of the Khasavyurt prosecutor's office. We need justice," she said.

In her turn, Sapiyat Magomedova said that only inadequate work of power agents had brought the case to the court. "Arslankhanov had openly breached the law. I had long hoped that higher instances will put him to the due place. However, it didn't happen; and I'll now have to seek justice in litigation," said the lawyer.
