PACE monitoring group members are dissatisfied with maltreatment of draftees in Armenian army

During their four-day visit to Armenia, the members of the PACE monitoring group Jerzy Jaskiernia and Rene Andre are to visit one of the military units in the Armavir region of Armenia to get acquainted with the situation in military units.

As the National Assembly press-cutting service informed, during their meeting with Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Defense, National Security, and Internal Affairs Mher Shakhgeldian, the monitoring group members had expressed their dissatisfaction with the maltreatment of draftees in Armenia, as well as with the inactivity of the police in preventing falsifications during the elections in Armenia. During the meeting the sides stressed the importance of adopting the law on alternative military service. Shakhgeldian pointed out that in September the Commission, in cooperation with the OSCE and CE, is to organize a seminar to discuss the bill on alternative military service.

  • Two natives of Northern Caucasus injured in shootout near “Wildberries” office in Moscow

    A shootout took place near an office of the “Wildberries” Company in the centre of Moscow. As a result, at least one person has been killed and several others have been wounded, sources report.   • In Volgograd, court recognizes absence of HIV therapy in prison hospital

    The Central District Court of Volgograd awarded prisoner Ruslan Mitrofan compensation in the amount of 1000 roubles, recognizing that the administration of a prison hospital in Volgograd violated the prisoner’s right to receive medical care by not providing him with an HIV medicine.
