In Kabardino-Balkaria, militant's relatives sentenced conditionally for concealment

The City Court of Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, has passed a verdict of guilty to the Dugulubgov family - mother and her two daughters - for covering militant Sufyan Zhemukhov.

The Dugulubgovs were accused of committing a crime stipulated by Article 316 of Russian Criminal Code - "Unpromised concealment of one's especially grave crimes".

It follows from the criminal case that on September 20, 2008, the Dugulubgovs were visited by their distant relative Sufyan Zhemukhov, whose arm was in bandage. When asked about his problem, he said that he had broken his arm. The hosts knew that he was in search; they understood that he came to them on purpose and decided not to give him out.

Later, Zhemukhov went out and returned with his arm in plaster, put at a medical institution. By that time the hosts knew that their relative had a gunshot wound.

Subsequently, it was cleared out that the doctor who put the plaster was told that the guy took his service at a distant frontier post and received the wound at a casual firearm handling.

Actually, Sufyan Zhemukhov was wounded in a skirmish with Alim Sizhazhev, an operative agent of the UBOP (Department to Fight Organized Crime) of the Kabardino-Balkarian MIA, who tried to detain him. In the skirmish, Sizhazhev received a head wound and died. Sufyan Zhemukhov received an arm wound and the bullet got stuck there. Later, they managed to extract the bullet at home with the help of a razor blade.

The members of the Dugulubgov family were sentenced as follows: mother - to one year of conditional imprisonment, one of the daughters - to the same punishment for 6 months, and the other daughter was fined by 5000 roubles.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was explained at the court that Article 51 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which allows not testifying against close relatives, does not cover the distant (second civil degree) relatives - cousins, aunts, uncles, etc.
