Militiaman killed in Chechen village bordering on Ingushetia

At night of May 19, in the Sunzha District of the Chechen Republic, unidentified persons killed an employee of the Republic's law enforcement bodies. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent received this information from a member of local NGO; it was also confirmed by a source in law enforcement bodies of Chechnya.

"On May 19, late at night, in Sernovodsk village, Sunzha District (borders on the district in Ingushetia of the same name, - comment of the "Caucasian Knot"), Isa Baharchiev, an employee of the MIA, was shot dead. According to the information received by us from local residents, the incident was like that: late at night a group of unknown persons rushed into the militiaman's house, shot him dead and disappeared in an unknown direction," reports the Information Centre of the Union of Chechen NGOs.

"Supposedly, the murder could be committed by militants. No additional details on this incident are available so far," said an employee of the Centre.

In the meantime, a couple of kilometres away from Sernovodsk village, the Sunzha District of Ingushetia, same as the mountain part of Chechnya, are for the third day under a broad-scale special operation against participants of illegal armed formations (IAFs). The law enforcement bodies have reported about four liquidated separatists; one of them, according to official data, was a citizen of Azerbaijan.

It has also become known that on May 18 as a result of two attacks accomplished by militants on law enforcers in the high-mountainous Vedeno District of Chechnya, three servicemen of federal troops and one Chechen militiaman were wounded.
