Karachaevo-Circassia: mothers with many children awarded

On the International Family Day, May 15, the government of the Karachaevo-Circassian Republic (KCR) decorated mothers having many children with the medal "Mother's Glory". Fifty mothers who have brought up five and more children were awarded. The chairman of the Republic's parliament added envelopes with 1000 roubles per child.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent talked to some of the women who arrived to the holiday reception held by the government of the KCR.

Rabiya Penganova, born in 1939, now Category II invalid, has brought up seven children. The woman has noted that, although the government pays attention to mothers with many children, in her opinion, this attention and material support should be not on holidays only and not lumpsum, but permanent and systematic.

Amina Chotchaeva, a mother from aul (Caucasian village) Novaya Teberda, has brought up 6 children; she burst into tears during conversation: "I catastrophically lack money. Old people use to have plenty of sores, and we still have no gas at home. How can one remain healthy? In winter, we just die of cold," the elderly woman said through tears.

The woman was interrupted by a lady-employee of the administration of the Karachai District who happened to stand nearby. She told the journalist's source: "Say nothing; or she will write as it is. Keep silent and go away."
